For the past three years, the Duck Dash has been a great success! Thanks to you we have been able to give almost $12,000 to Camp Wonder. The campers always love to know that so many people are running to support them. Camp Wonder is a camp for children with chronic or life threatening skin diseases. Campers can “take a break from being a patient for a week and focus on just being a kid. Camp Wonder is a special place free of judgment and stares!” The Children's Skin Disease Foundation (CSDF) aims to “heal the heart, not just the skin.”
I have been attending and volunteering at Camp Wonder for the past thirteen years. I want to give back to the camp that has given me unconditional encouragement and taught me so much about feeling compassion for others. The kids at Camp Wonder are truly an inspiration to me. All proceeds from the Duck Dash go directly to Camp Wonder.
Why a Duck Dash? Dexter the Duck is the mascot at Camp Wonder. The history of Dexter comes from a little girl at camp who told camp founder, Francesca Tenconi, that she wished she was a duck so that all of her feathers would cover her skin and people would not stare at her. This comment melted Francesca's heart and she decided the mascot should be a duck.
Please join me for the Dash 5k Run/Walk to raise money for Camp Wonder! Thank you for your support.
